Mike Downs received his BA from the University of Maryland. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy and began flight training in 1979. Mike served for 12 years as a Naval Flight Officer in the S-3 Viking, a carrier-based antisubmarine warfare and reconaissance jet, and completed several Mediterranean and North Atlantic deployments. While on active duty, Mike obtained a Masters Degree in Financial Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. Mike and his wife Resa were married in 1981 in Salmon, Idaho. When not aboard an aircraft carrier, Mike's military duty stations have included both Jacksonville and Pensacola in Florida, San Diego, New Orleans, and Buckley Air Force Base in Denver. Mike retired from the Navy as a Commander in 1997 and attained his Colorado CPA license the following year. He spent the next five years gaining valuable and extensive experience working for several Denver area CPA firms. Since 2006 he has owned and operated his own practice.
Mike has also become a QuickBooks Certified Advanced Pro Advisor, having achieved Certifications as a Certified Pro Advisor yearly since 2006 as well as QuickBooks certifications in Point of Sale and Enterprise Solutions.
Resa is his wife of 30 years and serves as his Office Manager. We also employ three part-time QuickBooks and bookkeeping specialists.
Mike and Resa have two children. Kelle, a CSU graduate, lives in Los Angeles and currently works for a real estate investment company in El Segundo as an escrow assistant. Matt and his wife Jen live in Folsom, CA. Matt graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Opisbo with a Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering and presently works for an aerospace company in Sacramento.
In their spare time, Mike and Resa enjoy hiking in the Colorado mountains and walking on the beaches of California.
